Sanctifying the Sunday

„So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it.“ (Gen. 2,3)

The Sword-Bishop argues:

„Commandments of GOD cannot be changed. Commandments given by GOD cannot be shaken, either by a bishop, or by a pope, or any one at all. I have come to make known the wishes of GOD. ‚You shall sanctify the Sunday!‘ it is said. But again and again people expect me to comply with their wishes. It grieves me for the sake of GOD if people say: ‚We will go to church on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday instead.‘ This is not keeping the commandment: ‚You shall sanctify the Sunday!‘ Of course, GOD did not say: ‚You shall attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass on Sunday‘, but the Church has thus set it down in the Church Law and I see no reason why I should loose this precept of the Church. For how could I better sanctify the Sunday than by attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass? – Sunday is simply the day which GOD has reserved to Himself.

Actually, Sunday observance is a precept taken very seriously by GOD. Some of our people make a more-than-two-hour drive each Sunday to attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and their way back involves just as much time. Others again treat this precept very carelessly. The Mother of GOD foretold that a time will come when people would have to travel up to seven hours in order to attend a Holy Mass pleasing to GOD.

Daily experience shows you how the days are getting shorter, how time runs more swiftly although the clock does not seem to tick any faster. Man realizes it, notices it and yet does not notice it. Many predicted disasters have already happened. People see it and yet do not see it. The Christian spirit in Europe is completely breaking down, dwindling. This may be seen particularly well from the fact that less and less Christians sanctify the Sunday. There are many who say: ‚Of course, we see there is something wrong in the Church.‘ But what do they do about it? The homosexuals go out into the streets and stand up for their rights, lesbians, skinheads, techno fans and the like. But the Catholics, the Church, the Christian people remain silent.

After a flood disaster severely affecting the farmers, the Church announced that they would be in their hearts and prayers near those still flood-stricken people etc.

The Church leaders should say: ‚We do not suppose you will ask why such a thing happened because for the most part Sunday labour is to blame for this disaster. Haying, reaping, all work is done on Sunday. Now the good people will have to suffer under it as well.‘ Here would have been an opportunity to talk about Sunday labour, but they do not say a word about it as if the people were all saints, and they mourn with them.

A Christian Europe
GOD does not punish, but man punishes himself and the devil laughs. Oh yes, a united Europe would be a good thing, indeed a very good thing. But this united Europe which is now in progress is no unification which helps to strengthen but serves to weaken. Even my father wished that Europe were united, but in Christian faith so that it would be a stronghold against evil and more especially against the unchristianizing.

The early Christians paid their faith with their lives. I would wish to see such Christians again. – Keep holy the Sunday! Fear of man must vanish! Confess the Christian faith! Take a chance in zeal for the LORD! By the way: Not because it is so hard, dare people not take the plunge, but because people dare not take the plunge, it becomes so hard. And bear in mind, as the saying goes: ‚Like your Sunday, like your dying day.‘“
